Radar detectors of the past were pretty noisy, especially if you live in Los Angeles, and configuring it to stop all the noise can be pretty frustrating. It takes the entire concept to a whole new level. They work hard to provide the kind of features and compatibility that are designed to save you time and money, and to help you see into your future with the Cobra community giving you a heads-up on what dangers (of ALL types) you might be approaching while driving.īy far one of the coolest things about the iRadar is the integrated crowd-sourced reports from other iRadar users. I’m still not a radar detector convert and won’t be buying one for personal use, but the 480i would be on my list if I was.THE MOST INNOVATIVE, TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED, AND USER-FRIENDLY DETECTOR DEVICE EVER CREATED It’s simple to understand and has less of a learning curve than other radar detectors I’ve tested. Overall, I found the RAD 480i to be useful and easy to operate. In the same vein, there aren’t enough users to make apps like Waze useful either. This is useful for people in densely populated areas, but rural areas like where I live don’t have many other Cobra users floating around to fill in data on the app. To be fair, other radar detectors do the same and you can filter out K band detection, but it’s confusing nonetheless.Ĭobra also offers an app that allows users to send and receive real-time alerts from other drivers. Here in Maine, we have digital signage on the highways to communicate road conditions, and the Cobra alerted K band signals for every one of them. In town, the radar detector does well with Ka band and the alerts were generally very accurate.
